In 1990 I had an accident at work that culminated in a back injury as well as sciatica, both extremely painful conditions. My wife and I went along to the Mind Body and Soul Exhibition in London.

There was an array of different therapies on offer. The National Federation of Spiritual Healers had a stand, and I was in so much pain that I was willing to try anything at that point. Unfortunately for me, theirs was one of the busiest stands, with a long queue waiting for healing. One of the healers said that if I left my details, along with 50p to cover postage, they would send me a list of healers in my area. This they did within a week or two.
